Lost for words

Remember the blog about the Importance of spending time alone with God in prayer”?  Well, the truth is that there are times that it feels as if your prayer life has come to a standstill.   You are lost for words to pray and get stuck.  Or sometimes circumstances leave us lost for words and praying does not come easy.

Why not use scripture to pray?

This is how I do it.  As I read the scripture, I insert my name.  For example:

(1 Peter 1:13-26) Be Holy

13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, Sylvia set your hope on the grace to be brought to you Sylvia when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 14 As an obedient child Sylvia, do not conform to the evil desires you Sylvia had when you Sylvia lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you Sylvia is holy, so be holy in all you do Sylvia16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”[a]

17 Since you Sylvia call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time Sylvia as foreigners here in reverent fear. 18 For you Sylvia know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you Sylvia were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you Sylvia from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake Sylvia. 21 Through him you Sylvia believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so Sylvia your faith and hope are in God.

Now you try…

22 Now that you Your Name  have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you Your Name have sincere love for other, love one another deeply, from the heart.[b] 23 For you Your Name have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For, Your Name all people are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25     but the word of the Lord endures forever.”[c]

And this is the word that was preached to you Your Name.

Praying or reading the Word like in the example above has two purposes:

One:  Scripture always help you to feel the presence of the Lord our God.

Two:  It is not only a prayer but a proclamation over your life.

Try it out, and let me know if this makes a difference in your time with God.
